UK-Halsey Sailmakers – Commodores Cup With a J109 in the small boat class, Jamie McWilliam and the owner of our loft Tom McWilliam finished 2nd in class by half a point.

It all came down to the last race and with 2 legs left to go Yeoman of Wight/Team Hong Kong were comfortably in the lead with the required boats between them and Quokka to ensure a victory. The win was snapped from their grasp by a Salona 37 losing their rig in a particularly nasty gust.

Having won the offshore by a huge 17 minutes the J109 and the McWilliam brothers were on fire, the weapon of choice was the UK-Halsey Sailmakers Code Zero which enabled them to pass to leeward of three boats during the night. Jamie was heard saying in the Pier View shortly afterwards “I will NEVER own a yacht that does not have one of these sails in the wardrobe”. The UK-Halsey loft was kept incredibly busy during the week due to the challenging conditions and had nearly every boat competing through the door with service and repair work to do at some stage!

UK-Halsey Sailmakers – Warsash Spring Series Update

UK-Halsey Sailmakers have started the Warsash Spring Series with a bang. In the 45 Foot class, Eammon O’Nolans’ Farr 45 ‘Freddie Freeloader’ convincingly beat the opposition. Posting three firsts and a second with the lofts’ Rob Larke on the Mainsheet and Sam Richmond trimming downwind, it is a great start to the Big Boat Series for 2008. Unfortunately they could not extend their lead as Sunday was more suitable for snowball fights than the excellent windward-leeward racing they had on Saturday.

In the IRC 2 Class David Walters and his crew on ‘Jackdaw’ posted impressive results in their two races to take the win, a massive seven points clear of the second placed boat. With a new UK-Halsey wardrobe towards the end of last season Walters is certainly flying.

In the Sigma 38 class, UK-Halsey Sails are used by two of the top three contenders. John Rainger and Robert Denning on ‘Light’ proved to be the most consistent with two seconds, with Nigel Goodhew and his crew on board ‘Persephone’ pushing them all the way to finish just 3 points behind.
